Peter Shimamoto

Peter Shimamoto is a partner at Fayer Gipson.  He specializes in complex commercial civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on entertainment and intellectual property matters. He has extensive experience in all aspects of civil litigation in federal court, state court, and arbitrations, from pre-filing through trial and appeal. He has obtained successful results for his clients through motion practice, at trial, on appeal, and through settlement. 

Mr. Shimamoto received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was an Editor on the Harvard Law Review.  After graduating from Harvard, Mr. Shimamoto clerked for the Honorable Robert R. Merhige, Jr., in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.  He received a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley, with High Honors, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. 

Mr. Shimamoto has worked in New York and Los Angeles, including at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Irell & Manella.  He has litigated cases involving some of the nation’s leading artists, motion picture studios, television networks, television production companies, and music companies.  His clients have obtained more than $100 million in jury verdicts and settlements.

He is a member of the California and New York bars, and is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Central, Northern, and Southern Districts of California, Southern District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals, Third and Ninth Circuits. 

He is also a member of the board of directors for East West Players, the nation’s premier Asian American theater organization.
